Lynda Martin was born and raised in West Los Angeles and attended Westlake School for Girls in Holmby Hills, followed by the University of Wisconsin in Madison and University of California in Berkeley where she graduated with a BA in English and history.  Lynda married the architect Richard Martin in the sixties with whom she had two children.  Lynda was a member of the Art Museum Council at LACMA and then worked as a docent at the same institution.

In the seventies she returned to school at Loyola Marymount, and obtained a Masters in Psychology and then started to practice family therapy in the Los Angeles area.  In 1985, Lynda’s family founded a charitable foundation known as The Skyscrape Foundation where she is one of the directors.  The foundation’s goal is to support the arts and women's issues: micro-financing, family counseling and parenting skills. The scope of Lynda’s personal contributions has extended to support for orphans in India, Sri Lanka, and village infrastructure for women's health in Bali. Lynda moved to France in the early 90's where she became involved in a residency for artists in Provence. It is known as Ateliers Fourwinds and lends a hand to visiting working artists who can find solace and space in which to create either by painting or sculpting. It is a not for profit Association under French law and she spends four to five months a year there refurbishing and aiding foreign artists from all over the world.  In 2006, Lynda moved to St. Helena, California where she now resides when not traveling or living in France.
